Bill WilsonBill WilsonBill loves his life as a potter. He lives in a rural setting where the rhythm of the seasons, the wide-open vistas, and the ever-changing mountains are an inspiration for him. Bill has been a professional potter for over 25 years. His style is constantly evolving because he is always experimenting with all aspects of the process of making ceramics. Most of the work that Bill is doing now is with some wonderful
shino glazes on porcelain and stoneware. These shino glazes are alive
when you apply them to the pot. From the second the pot is glazed
a crystal growth begins. He stops this crystal growth in some areas
by laying plastic or wax over the glaze before it is dry. Then, during
the firing, the areas where the crystals have been allowed to develop capture
carbons, creating a different look. Bill applies a few different glazes
and wood ash over the top of the shinos to add yet another dimension.
He loves the depth, life, and rich colors that this process has brought
to his work.
